How To Choose The Best Student Laptop?

How To Choose the Best Student Laptop?

Merchants are singing those three magic words again,
'Back to School' and the fallout is everywhere!

Just as you're getting your deep dark pre-cancerous tan
going -- you hear those words -- and it spells the end
of summer. Once again we are bombarded with advertising,
featuring the latest in 'teen ware' 'school ware' and
'metal detector ware'. Kidding!

How To Choose The Best Student Laptop?

Is it just me or does it seem this year there is a lot
more 'Back to School' advertising for notebooks and laptops?
They seem to be everywhere... on TV, radio, and online.

Laptop ads are everywhere. Why is this?

Well, notebooks have come down in price, they have become
more affordable, even for the modest student. Laptops have
also come down in size, making them ideal for that school
napsack, or dormroom. They have also become tougher
and sturdier... better equipped to meet the hard/wear/tear
that students give it.

With notebook technology changing every two years or
so; notebooks can now handle most tasks students throw
their way. These advanced notebooks can do the job. They also
present a much stronger entertainment value to students, they
can handle better graphics and gaming, but most students
try to keep parents in the dark about this factor as they
plead for a new laptop for college or school. All this
pleading is further fueling the demand for laptops.

Then there is a little thing called the Internet. Throw
in a wireless connection and the student laptop is coming
into its own. Big Time!

The Internet has become a second teacher/parent/counselor
to most students. God help us all! But it has also become
a priceless source of the collective knowledge on this planet;
frightening but true. The Internet is an invaluable source of
knowledge for any high school/college student.

Not having ready access to all this knowledge and information
will put any student at a disadvantage with his peers.
It's a very competitive world, in high school, in college and
in the future job market; every student should have an even
playing field.

That's where the little notebook computer enters stage right!

Laptops or notebooks have quickly become a school necessity.
When? How? Why?...

It's the perfect learning tool for students:

* very portable, you can carry them anywhere, class, cafe,
dorm, home...

* very convenient, you can take notes in class, type up assignments, print assignments, communicate home, access the Internet...

* very tough, many newer notebooks are designed to withstand a good pounding and keep on computing, ruggerized for sturdy use...

* very powerful, notebooks or laptops are catching up to their desktop cousins in computing speed, hard drive storage and
performance...

* very affordable, prices have dropped and are falling even further, laptops are now outselling desktop PCs so this price will drop even further, there's a whole slew of used and refurbished laptops hitting the market...

If you're a parent, student, or guardian; here are some of the factors you should consider when buying the best student laptop or notebook:

* size, it must be small, lightweight and very portable, fit comfortably under the arm or in that backpack

* sturdy, it must be tough, sturdy, ruggerized, and able to take more than one hard knock because students are students

* connections, wireless connections should be offered, the Internet is such a valuable tool in itself - a student should be able to access it anywhere. Most notebooks have these connections but check -- a printer port, a 56Kbps-modem, a VGA port for an external monitor, and should have at least one USB port for external keyboard/mouse, digital cameras, drives, and MP3 players

* technical specs, it should have enough RAM, storage space (hard drive) and computing speed to do any job the student can throw at it

* battery life, make sure your student notebook has a reasonable battery life, 5 hours or more

* price, it should be reasonably priced, refurbished laptops may be an option for those on a strict budget

However, some words of wisdom, students or parents shouldn't skimp
too much -- if you're spending 10's of thousands on an education, you
should also provide for the best possible equipment in the form of a sturdy,
lightweight high performance laptop. Besides, a high quality laptop will
last for years... just imagine your son or daughter writing their resumes on
it after they have finished college... keep this image in your mind as you go
about buying that perfect student laptop.

New Laptop Technology You Need To Know (Before Buying Your Next Laptop)

Laptop or notebook computer technology is advancing at
a blistering speed. Ferrari fast. So fast that by the time
you purchase your new laptop, it's probably already
obsolete or out of date. A sobering thought considering
the hefty prices you have to pay for a high-end laptop.

But laptop technology is changing so fast new innovations
are coming on stream as you read this article. There is a
whole new generation of notebook technology every two years
or less. Therefore, unless you buy or upgrade your laptop
each year you're falling behind what these sleek little
powerhouses can now deliver.

And unless you're already in Geek Heaven, keeping track
of all these new technologies and innovations can be
quite a chore. Figuring out the right Graphics chipset
that works best with the right CPU and the best Data buses
is a major feat. And now that everything is being
Doubled -- dual core, dual graphics -- it's entering
the realm where Einstein would be amused, even on a
bad hair day!

New Laptop Technology You Need To Know (Before Buying Your Next Laptop)

What's the ordinary laptop buyer to do?

What you really have to keep in mind are the outcomes
of all this new technology. Basically, these new
technologies have made laptops smaller, faster and more
powerful. With every new improvement the laptop is closing
the gap between its main rival -- the desktop computer.

Notebook computers are now out-selling desktops for
the first time in history. Laptops are replacing the
old desktop computer, whose days may just be numbered.
It won't be long before laptops are also out-performing
them as well.

Some major computer makers are taking note of this
trend towards more powerful, smaller computers.
Even the desktop computer is morphing! Just look at
the sleek design of the new Apple iMac G5, gone is the
bulky tower, in its place is a well designed desktop
computer that's almost a laptop!

For the ordinary computer user keeping abreast of
all these new technologies and inventions can be a
major chore if you're considering buying a laptop
in the next little while. As you approach the smiling
salesperson in your favorite tech store, here's a
few bits of new notebook technology you might want
to have in your possession so you won't look like a
complete neophyte. Hey, where technology is concerned,
we have all been there, done that.

In order for you to tech-proof your next laptop
purchase, here's a quick run down of some recent
Notebook Developments:

Sonoma Chipset

The new Sonoma Platform, Intel's next-generation Centrino
Chipset is already on the market. Members of the Sonoma
club are growing daily - Sony, IBM/Lenovo, BenQ, Dell,
Samsung, Acer, and Toshiba... another 80 or 90
'Sonoma-endowed' products will be released very shortly.

No doubt, it will become the Platform standard for many
high-end notebooks. Actually, it won't make or mean that
much difference to the ordinary Joe/Jane who just want a
notebook or laptop for web surfing, word processing and
e-mail. Notebooks with the Sonoma Platform will be just
a little bit faster and have a little better battery life.

But for Mobile Professionals and Notebook Fanatics (they
do exist)... there's a lot of good things delivered or
capable of being delivered with this new Centrino Chipset.
First, wireless connections will be easier with the integrated
tri-mode 802.11a/b/g, already dubbed by some as the
'wireless trinity'! This will make it easier to stay
connected no matter where you are.

Improved performance will be experienced because the
new Pentium M's have a 533MHz frontside bus, supported
with up to 2GB of DDR2 DRAM, Serial ATA Hard Drive, and
PCI Express, plus improved integrated graphics, including
Intel's Hi-Def Audio. All are possible with the Sonoma
Platform.

PCI Express

PCI(Peripheral Component Interconnect) Express is a new
standard for expansion cards that comes in different
versions. Presently, we have the x16 and x1 lanes, which
will be followed by x4 and x8 versions. It offers increased
bandwidth for example, x1 lane offers 500MB/sec instead of
just 133MB/sec for PCI.

All computers, including laptops have different buses,
(collection of wires) that transmit data from one component
to another.

Of course, in an ideal world, all the data in your computer
should move through just one BUS - however, most experts agree
it's not likely to happen unless we start over and build a
computer system from scratch. For now we have to rely on
different internal buses to move the data around, the
PCI Express is a great improvement and will make your
laptop faster.

Graphics Card

These are always improving. A Graphics Card handles the
graphics or visuals on your notebook. If 3D graphics and
games is a pastime, you will want to buy the highest
quality system. Some of the higher end products are:
ATi Mobility Radeon 9800, X800, and FireGL V3200 or
Intel's Graphics Media Accelerator 900.

If you can, go with a NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 graphics
card or for the real game diehards - wait for the debut
of NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 that features NVIDIA's TurboCache
technology.

Gamers will be aware of NVIDIA SLI technology, ATI's
CrossFire and Hyperthreading. All new stuff that's
bringing the gaming experience up to a higher level of
perfection that would even be worthy of a Spielberg or
a Lucas Production. Not really, but it's getting there.

64 Bit Laptops

Most systems today run on the 32 Bit System. Keep in mind,
the major difference between a 32-bit and a 64-bit system
is the amount of memory that they support. Around 4 GB for
32-bit and 8 GB and up for the 64-bit. Right now -- Intel,
Apple, and AMD all offer 64-bit systems.

Do you need all this memory? No, for the average laptop
user it amounts to overkill. However, if you're interested
in gaming, desktop publishing, or the graphic arts you will
benefit from 64-bit technology.

Dual Core Notebooks

Two is better than one!

Dual core laptops are now on the market. The gaming industry
is the starting point for many of these advanced systems.
For example, the British Laptop maker Rockdirect now produces
Xtreme 64, a gaming laptop with AMD's new dual core Athlon 64
X2 processor. This same laptop also sports the ATI Mobility
Radeon X800 XT graphics card that features 16 pixel pipelines,
an industry first for notebooks.

The major producers of dual-core chips are Intel and AMD.
The Intel dual-core processor has hyperthreading (HT), the
two cores are divided into four virtual CPU units. Is all this
needed? Again, if you're into heavy graphics or gaming, it's
something you should consider and explore further.

Built-in Cellular Modem

Most high-end laptops now come with an integrated
tri-mode 802.11a/b/g for wireless WI-FI connections.

Some recent models, like the Sony's New Ultra-Portable
VAIO VGN-T350P, are raising the bar; it has the world's
first 'Built-in Cellular Modem'. You can use your cell phone
to connect to the Internet. This may be a great advantage
since finding a 'Hot Spot' in some parts of the world can
still be difficult.

The Avant-Garde: LumiLED Display

Be on the look-out for LED monitors in the near future.
The brightness, colors and backlighting technology in LED
monitors will be quite different from LCD displays.

The Forerunner in this field is NEC's SpectraView LumiLED,
and will offer a much better image and color.
Keep your eyes peeled.

On the Horizon:

19 or 20 Inch Laptop Screens

There is a rumor, only a rumor, that Dell is coming out
with a 19-inch laptop in early 2006. There is also buzz
that LG-Philips has a 20-inch LCD panel which could easily
be used by laptop makers if they want to explore this
market area. Andre the giant will be pleased!

Conclusion

Of course, there are many more laptop innovations in
the pipeline but they're beyond the scope of this article.
Just keep all these new technological notebook changes in
mind when you're checking out your next laptop. Maybe,
just maybe, most of these won't already have been replaced
by something new by the time you buy your next laptop.
But don't bet your Google Stocks on it!

What is the Difference Between Laptop and Netbook?

So what is the difference between laptop and netbook? A laptop (also called a notebook) is computer which has been designed to be made portable, featuring a screen hinged to a keyboard. A laptop includes a battery for portable power and a touchpad instead of a mouse for input.

Mini laptops (also called a netbook, subnotebook or ultraportables) take these ideas further still, creating a new market above handheld computers, smartphones and personal digital assistants. The primary characteristic of these are smaller size and weight, which are pretty similar to the average diary, as well as costing less than a standard laptop with prices starting at around £150, an excellent solution during the credit crunch!

Mini laptops aren't as powerful as bigger notebook computers, and lack the power for big, demanding programs as well as an optical disc drive - so no CDs or DVDs. None the less, connectivity is a central focus for netbooks. Internet downloads are quickly catching up on hard media products, so perhaps it's not such a loss.

What is the Difference Between Laptop and Netbook?

In short, the difference between laptop and netbook is a netbook is smaller, lighter, cheaper (on the whole) and simpler.

New mini laptops are expected to sell in the region of 5.2 million units by the end of 2008, 8 million during 2009 and up to 50 million by 2012 - a ten fold growth. Industry analysts are torn whether or not subnotebooks will cannibalize the laptop market, some suggesting that a mere 10% market share will be taken. However, in this economic downturn, people will always look for cheaper products and with mini laptops available from £150-200, perhaps there is a big market after all.

So is it game over for the standard laptop and pc? Unlikely; whilst mini laptops can perform dozens of tasks to identical or similar standard of larger computers, they will (for the time being) be limited by battery size, processing power and storage space, the difference between laptop and netbook is pronounced enough not to make the former obsolete.

Furthermore, when using a computer over a prolonged period of time, it would make sense to use a bigger screen and a faster processor of a desktop replacement laptop or a PC, particularly for demanding programs' such as games.

And finally, similarly priced but laptops, of varying quality, are available for around £200-300 leading some industry analysts to believe that the consumer focus will be on functionality and not merely size and weight.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, mobile phone manufacturers and providers are tapping into the netbook market with the Samsung NC10, LG X110 and Carphone Warehouse launching the Webbook - a branded laptop made by Elonex. Vodafone has linked arms with Dell with its Inspiron Mini 9, offering 3G mobile broadband contracts. Orange have followed suit with by cosying up with Asus and the Eee PC 901.

The difference between laptops and netbooks may seem very vague, but there is certainly space for both to function. If you've got a laptop, even reading this on one, lift it up. Feel the weight of it. Ask yourself, do I need all this extra space? Would I be better off with something smaller and lighter - if the answers yes, browse around the site.

Laptop Reviews - HP Vs Toshiba Vs Apple Laptops

Toshiba, HP and Apple are some of the biggest (and most established) laptop brands in the world. If you are in the market for a new laptop model, it is often difficult to choose between the brands (leave alone the models). Here is a quick comparison between these three laptop giants to help you make your chose.

As with everything else, price is always a major factor in making any purchase. If you are shopping for a laptop on a budget, you may want to consider a HP or Toshiba laptop, as they are much cheaper than Apple laptops. This is not to say that Apple computers are overpriced. They may not have the best price-to-specs-ratio but they often come with lots of unique features that make them worth your purchase. They are also very durable and reliable so it is still justified to spend a little more on an Apple laptop. On the other hand, if you just need a budget-friendly, straightforward and powerful laptop model, HP and Toshiba laptops are they way to go.

Besides being very affordable, HP is also famous for its great customer support. They have a wide variety of laptop models to choose from and most of them are very well priced. If you are somebody who can use a PC for 6 years or more before getting a new one, you may want to get a Toshiba laptop. This Japanese giant is famous for making very durable laptops. If money is of no object than an Apple laptop would make a great purchase. Besides having lots of one-of-a-kind features such as it huge track pad and gorgeous display, the Mac OS on its own may justify your purchase. It is well-known that the multitasking performance on the Mac OS is better than other Windows-based systems with the same specs. Apple computers also scores big in the 'cool-factor' department.

A Brief History of Mobile Computing

The fascinating world of mobile computing has only been around since the 1990s. Since then, devices that have been developed for mobile computing have taken over the wireless industry. This new type of communication is a very powerful tool for both businesses and personal use. Mobile computing is defined as the ability to use technology that is not physically connected to any static network. This actually used to mean radio transmitters that operated on a stable base, usually with the help of large antennas. 2 way radios used by police officers were also considered mobile technology but now, it means people can connect wirelessly to the internet or to a private network almost anywhere. As long as a person has one of the devices capable of wirelessly accessing the internet, they are participating in mobile computing. Chances are, you have done it with a laptop computer or a personal digital assistant or PDA.

These days, most laptops and personal digital assistants all have wireless cards or Bluetooth interfaces built into them for convenient mobile internet access. Mobile solutions are right under everyone's nose these days, and connectivity has never been easier. Other common tools for mobile computing include devices like global positioning systems and smart phones like the Cingular Blackberry. Tons of PDA software development has been going on in the past five years simply because companies have been trying hard to make PDA technology more available to the general public. These days, software companies almost make more software for PDAs and smart phones than for actual desktops.

Pocket PCs are another way to conveniently access the internet on the fly. Everyone has probably heard of the Palm Pilot. While they were the pioneers of the pocket pc, many other companies such as Dell, HP, and Toshiba have all delved into the market. Pocket PC software has also become much easier to use. Most Palms use the familiar Windows interface, allowing the general public to access the internet via the usual Internet Explorer or other ISPs. Also, people can easily download useful software, including games, Media editing tools, organization tools, and even electronic books.

A Brief History of Mobile Computing

Mobile computing has evolved from two-way radios that use large antennas to communicate simple messages to three inch personal computers that can do almost everything a regular computer does. People can't go to their local Starbucks and not see a laptop linked up to a hotspot these days, and mobile computing is still in its baby phase.

8 Cloud Computing Companies To Watch In 2012

Cloud computing today is more popular than ever before. Over the last few years, nearly all leaders in technology jumped right into cloud computing market. Cloud computing firms that have potential to lead in 2012 are discussed below.

Google

The way we search information was completely improved since Google joined the industry. The search giant again improved the way we use our application software with their Google Apps that provide cloud-based email, calendar and documents for small and mid-sized enterprises to large companies. Google recently released Google Music Beta. It is a service which allows you store your music on the internet and provides instant access without having to sync between devices. It was also speculated that Google may be resurrecting their cloud storage project, GDrive.

8 Cloud Computing Companies To Watch In 2012

Amazon

Amazon claims itself Earth's biggest selection. I thought it may also be one of the best cloud computing companies on this planet. Cloud computing, cloud storage space, cloud data bank, content delivery, payment, monitoring are examples of their services leading in the market. You need to look at Amazon.com's AWS if you are seeking an outstanding cloud service provider with competitive price.

Apple

Apple's answer to cloud computing market is to deliver iCloud service to their customers. Using iCloud, people can sync a variety of contents such as pictures, music, movies, documents etc. to cloud, and open or play it from any Mac, PC, iPhone & iPad. Having millions of existing loyal customers, iCloud will probably be a huge success. It was reported that Apple tried to acquire popular cloud storage company Dropbox for 0 millions, but their offer was declined.

Microsoft

Some people believed cloud computing is the threat to Microsoft. Realizing the changing trend, the OS giant is attempting to gain ground among the lead cloud computing companies with Windows Azure. Windows Azure is now really popular among their loyal Windows users.

Salesforce.com

Salesforce.com provides customer relationship management (CRM) products to enterprise consumers. It is one of the most successful cloud providers offering PaaS.

Dropbox

Dropbox, Inc. provides cloud storage to end users. It offers a variety of user clients across diverse mobile and computer OS. Using Dropbox clients, users can easily store and distribute files to others through the internet. Users may also stream audio and video from their Dropbox accounts to mobile Dropbox clients like Android, iPhone and iPad. Free customers can enjoy 2GB of free storage. They can get up to 8 Gigabytes of free online storage by referring other people to Dropbox. Paid account starts from .99/month for 50 GB. Dropbox also has 100 Gigabyte plan and large quota subscription.

SugarSync

SugarSync is an online storage company which offers software application to synchronize documents, graphics as well as other media among multiple computing devices (both Mac & Windows), and even automatically back them up online. SugarSync provides 5 Gigabytes of free online storage to every customer.

Box.net

Box.net is a content management and online storage company. Box.net now provides 5 GB to free user, whilst the competitor Dropbox offers only 2 Gigabytes. Nevertheless, Dropbox's users can get as much as 8 Gigabytes free of charge should they recommend their friends to sign up Dropbox. 500 GB of online storage costs /month in Box.net whilst Dropbox will cost you .99 for 50 Gigabytes. That is a huge difference. Yet, Dropbox has larger variety of client software - Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone, Blackberry etc.

IF-THEN Statements With Microsoft Excel

One of the basic statements for financial modeling is the IF-THEN function in Excel. While this may not be considered as robust as other approaches when doing actual computer programming (C++, Java, VB), in Excel it is rather straightforward and ubiquitous.

There are a couple of things to remember when using the IF-THEN approach:

* For basic results like "if this cell equals dog put a bone in the cell next to it" or "if the cell on my right equals rain display an umbrella sign in the cell below" or something like that. IF-THEN works well for binary situations, and is a method that the basic financial modeler can use and understand readily easily. The beauty of the function at its most basic level is the simplicity.

IF-THEN Statements With Microsoft Excel

* IF-THEN can also be used for non-binary situations, meaning that one can "nest" several sub IF-THEN statements within the cell. For example, let's assume that you had four triggering events: apple, orange, grape and banana. Depending upon the word that was in a cell, there would be one of four results. This would look like:

=IF(A1="Apple","Watch for worm",IF(A1="Orange","Citrus",IF(A1="Grape","Soon to be a raisin",IF(A1="Banana","Don't slip on the peel","Do nothing")))).

You will notice that the last bit of this text includes "do nothing", which captures any text that is not one of the specified amounts you are seeking. If there were only four options (that somehow the input cell was blocked to prevent anything other than those four choices), the code would look like this:

=IF(A1="Apple","Watch for worm",IF(A1="Orange","Citrus",IF(A1="Grape","Soon to be a raisin","Don't slip on the peel"))).

By definition, only four choices will yield three IFs - think about the fourth IF as silent to help you see why this is the case.

* The financial modeler can also link IF-THEN statements to apply a mathematical operator to two or more statements in the cell. Thus, you could create a formula like =IF(A1="Pie",1,0)+IF(B1="Soup",2,0)+IF(C1="Water",3,0). You can do this with any operator and is useful if there are discrete components to the model you are developing. As you ultimately get further into advanced modeling, this can be used for triggers, or cells that create an influx of additional information when turned to a true state. Further discussion on that will occur as we move to intermediate level issues, but just remember that there is flexibility in the IF-THEN statement from this particular perspective.

* One shortcoming of the IF-THEN statement usage is that you can only have up to seven nested statements EVER in any function in Excel. For examples, the following is a maxed out version of the IF-THEN statement:

=IF(C5=1,1,IF(C5=2,2,IF(C5=3,3,IF(C5=4,4,IF(C5=5,5,IF(C5=6,6,IF(C5=7,7,IF(C5=8,8,"No")))))))) - if you try to add another nested IF statement, you will get an error message. Part of the rationale behind that is because evaluating the IF-THEN in the standard Excel environment (as well as computer language in general) takes some time to evaluate. Granted, it is not a lot of time when thinking about a machine calculating something faster than us, but each of the evaluation steps requires computing speed and memory. If you can imagine a nested 20-step IF-THEN statement in your mind and pretend that you must evaluate that statement in order until the last part of it, you will begin to see why there needs to be extra time for the computer to do analyze it. Thus, seven is the cutoff point, but in reality, you should never need that many nested IF-THEN statements anyway.

In summary, the IF-THEN statement can be a very useful, simple approach to binary and certain non-binary situations. It is not perfect for larger database inquiries or very large spreadsheets wherein the answer to the IF-THEN drives the model, but it can suffice for everyday simple financial modeling applications, and it easy to implement and interpret.

Shopping for a Touchscreen Tablet? Some Options for Mobile Computing With a Tablet

Although Apple started the new revolution of mobile computing with its wildly popular iPad, many smartphone and netbook manufacturers are now jumping on the bandwagon. With so many consumers purchasing the Apple iPad, it just makes sense that the PC industry would want a piece of the tablet mobile computing pie. Dell, Samsung, Avaya, Lenovo, and Cisco have all recently announced plans to bring their own touch screen tablets to the market in the next several months.

With all these new tablets entering the market, how can you decide which one will provide the maximum computing, collaboration, and mobile unified communications capabilities? There are several considerations to take into account before shelling out your cash on a new mobile device.

Shopping for a Tablet? Factors to Consider

Let's start with operating systems. Of course, the iPad uses Apple's iOS, but the majority of new tablets hitting the market will be based on the Android OS made popular by the latest smartphones. The Android platform has already proven its exceptional capabilities for a wide variety of utilizations. Lenovo is the sole exception, opting for Microsoft's Windows 7 OS.

Along with the Android OS, all will utilize 3G, the third generation of developments in wireless technology for increased bandwidth. Only one, the Avaya DVD, is instead offering Dongle for security authorization.

What about size and weight? At just a half a pound and with a tiny five-inch screen, the Dell Streak is the smallest of the new tablets. It's also one of the cheapest, with a proposed price of 0; of course it also has the fewest features. At the top end of the scale is the Lenovo X201, which weighs in at three pounds but features a screen just over twelve inches.

When it comes to Wi-Fi technology standards, the choices are 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n.Apple and Cisco are the only two manufacturers to currently offer them all.

As far as features in relation to price and size, none of the new tablets really comes anywhere close to what you get with the Apple iPad. Since it's been on the market for a while now, the price has come down and it's the beefiest when it comes to computing capabilities.

Tablet Mobile Computing Success

Unfortunately, tablets are not the best choice if you need heavy-duty computing functionality. But when it comes to communication and collaboration, a tablet is a good smartphone alternative. Email access, texting, and media playing are the best features on a tablet, taking smartphone capability to the next level by offering a larger screen. Another advantage of a tablet over a smartphone is the ability to use it as an eBook reader.

Since communication and collaboration are the two advantages of a tablet, it's best to connect these devices with synchronization service for your business. Choose a service that updates data between devices immediately and wirelessly. It's also a good idea to ensure that the synching works across platforms so that Apple and Android users can share calendars, contacts, and project notes. Some mobile syncing applications will offer extras, such as free antivirus and anti-spam service.

Some Disadvantages of Tablet PCs

The biggest disadvantage of a tablet is data input. Yes, the touch screen is larger than a smartphone, but tablets just aren't set up to easily input data other than through check boxes. Freeform text and graphics are often a requirement of mobile computing in many businesses and any of the tablets currently available or proposed do not address this capability.

Tablets make mobile computing easier but they are not computing workhorses so may not be as productive as you're hoping. You may want one now but look at your options before investing in one, particularly if you already own a smartphone and investigate available apps / software tools that could make your tablet work the way you need it too.
